Leadership Development Plan

Pasco High School Wrestling

Robert K. Bodnar

Head Coach

Athletes, coaches, parents, and staff:

This leadership handbook was developed with the intent that all athletes participating in Pasco High Wrestling will acquire leadership skills as a benefit of participation in our program. As leadership is a program goal of Pasco High Wrestling we are making our leader-athlete development plans available to athletes, coaches, parents and Pasco High Staff. We hope that through this information, all involved will be more knowledgeable about the goals of the program and how students will benefit from participation in the sport of wrestling.

Leadership skill development will make students more effective students, employees, and citizens. We hope with the implementation of the wrestling team’s leadership development plan, the team’s program goals ,as defined in our team mission statement will be met more effectively. Our intention is to provide this information so that all involved understand how leadership development fits in our plans and goals. We feel that implementing these leadership plans will make our attempt at achieving these goals more specific and measurable.

Pasco High School Wrestling Team’s leadership development plan was constructed by R.K. Bodnar in association with the “Developing Team Leader’s course developed by Dr. Thomas Kane, Southwest Missouri State University. The National Wrestling Coaches Association and the United States Marine Corps support this leadership training course. In order to understand how leadership development fits into program goals we will need to take a look at the team mission statement for Pasco High Wrestling.

Athletes parents and staff must be committed to the Pasco High School Wrestling team’s Mission Statement in order for the successful implementation of program goals. We ask that athletes, coaches, staff, and parents read and discuss our mission and ask any questions you may have prior to the start of the season.

The success of our team can be measured by the accomplishment of the principles and objectives stated in the team mission statement. A commitment from all involved in the program toward accomplishing these stated objectives is required should we wish to be successful in measuring up to the team mission statement.

All members of the team are required to spend the time necessary to read and understand the team mission statement and a signed copy of the statement will be required prior to the first practice session.

INDIVIDUAL ASPECTS: Athletes who participate on the Pasco High School Wrestling Team are optimally successful when:

A. Through the platform of wrestling athletes develop character traits such as: integrity, work ethic, sportsmanship, persistence, resilience, and loyalty.

B. Every student-athlete will learn and apply high levels of technical and strategical knowledge in the pursuit of goals and performance objectives.

C. Student athletes develop leadership skills through the mentoring from the coaching staff and the application of principles learned.

D. Student athletes defer to the good of the team first. Team Motto “Don’t Let Your Team Down.”

E. A “Personal Best” attitude is developed, “Good Enough Is Not Good Enough.” Each athlete aspires to his highest level of potential as a student, teammate and competitor.

F. It is not where you start it is where you finish. Students will develop an appreciation for successful completion of tasks, objectives and goals. they develop a “never quit attitude” in practice and in competition. .

G. Student athletes are expected to work toward the highest levels of strength, conditioning, technical, and competitive development possible in the pursuit of individual goals. -3-

H. Athletes will pursue challenging individual goals with the knowledge that their success will help accomplish team goals, and subsequently program goals.
